In karate practice, your footwork is key to your ability to move in relation to an opponent. It allows you to evade, attack and establish proper body positioning and distance.
Basic principle? Remain relaxed, upright, and light on your feet.
Here’s a drill that you might want to periodically incorporate into your workout regimen.
After getting down the basic drill, then try some variations of your own.
Be sure to keep your back perpendicular to the floor, and your hands up, preferably along the center line between you and your opponent.
Work both from a side stance as is practiced here, as well as from a 45 degree fighting stance.
